Full, part or pallet
Which kind of load is yours?
Getting the type right means the right vehicle turns up.
Full load
You book the whole vehicle, from a van to a 13.6 metre artic. It runs from your collection to your delivery with nobody else's goods on board.
Part load
Your goods share a vehicle with other loads heading the same way. It can cost less, but the timing depends on the other drops.
Pallets
Single pallets often go through pallet networks, hub to hub. Direct transport can suit urgent or fragile pallets.

Vans
For parcels, boxes and a pallet or two. Vans stay at or under 3.5 tonnes, so they suit smaller, quicker jobs.
Luton vans
A box body with more room, often with a tail lift for pallets and heavy items where there's no loading bay.
Rigid lorries
From 7.5 tonnes up, with curtainside, box or flatbed bodies, for bigger part loads and local full loads.

A standard 13.6 metre trailer takes 26 UK pallets or 33 euro pallets, for full loads over longer distances.
How road freight works in the UK

Full load haulage
A full load, sometimes called FTL, means you book the whole vehicle. It's usually the quickest option for larger consignments, because the vehicle runs from your collection to your delivery without other stops.
Part load haulage
A part load shares space with other goods. It can cost less than a full load, but it may take longer and involve more handling. Say in your post if your goods need to travel on their own.
What affects the price
Distance, vehicle size, weight, how easy the collection and delivery are, and timing all move the price. So does whether a carrier has work for the way back: a haulier who would otherwise run home empty may take a lower rate.
